Learn to Swim scheme that is offered by Aberdeen Amateur swimming club is one of the best swimming programs in the country. Our staff aims to teach the learners to be safe and competent swimmers, through progressive, fun lessons. We also prepare the swimmers for progression to more advanced aquatic disciplines.
Children are invited to join the LTS at any age from 4 years. The swimmers progress through Aqua Fun, Swim Skills 1-4 and, finally, to Club Ready. When they have completed Swim Skills 4 they have an opportunity to move to competitive swimming. At the end of Club Ready they are offered competitive swimming, water polo, lifesaving or fitness swimming.
Many of the teachers in the scheme are present or past Club competitive swimmers, who have derived much from the Club and who wish to contribute something back into the Club. The teachers all have the UKCC Level 1 qualification as a minimum and are encouraged to progress to a higher qualification as they gain experience. All L1 teachers are supervised by a L2 or above teacher. Teachers must be familiar with the Club Code of Conduct and they agree to work under written terms and conditions. All teachers must go through a Self-Declaration/PVG and are expected to have a SportsCoach UK Good Practice in Child Protection certificate. A voluntary licensing scheme for teachers and coaches has been introduced by Scottish Swimming and teachers are encouraged to apply for a licence. The LTS also runs a mentoring scheme, so that the teachers can develop their teaching skills.

Aberdeen ASC is delighted to be in partnership with The International School of Aberdeen (ISA), delivering learn-to-swim to the ISA school students at their own pool. Lessons run in line with the school terms.
Lessons are provided on a Tuesday, 4.15 - 5.15pm for swimmers who are able to swim lengths competently. On a Thursday, 4.15-5.15pm lessons are offered to students ranging from totally terrified non-swimmers to those at the stage before swimming lengths.
All lessons are delivered by qualified swimming teachers. In the first 4 levels there are assistants in the water to enhance the learning process. Lessons at the lower level are games based and focus on water confidence and a horizontal body position.
